Over het museum
The Musée Paul Delouvrier was created in 2007 in the Évry cathedral, a project carried forward in particular by Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger, Culture Minister Jack Lang and cultural engineering expert Claude Mollard. It occupies several levels of the building, behind the cathedral.
The collections are arranged by theme. In the basement and on the fourth floor, spaces are devoted to Africa and the Indian Ocean, with a set of Ethiopian art and craftwork. The fifth floor houses a contemporary art gallery, with more than fifty paintings from the 1980s to today, including works by Gérard Fromanger, Pierre Buraglio, Louis Cane and Victor Vasarely. This gallery also hosts temporary exhibitions.
On the sixth floor, the sacred art collection brings together liturgical objects linked to the history of the diocese of Évry-Corbeil-Essonnes, created in 1966, as well as old paintings by Italian, Spanish and Dutch masters. One space is dedicated to the “Boîtes à Rêves”, miniature scenes by the artist Madeleine Schlumberger (1900–1981).
