Over het museum

MuséoParc Alésia is located in Alise-Sainte-Reine, in the Côte-d’Or department, on the plateau long identified with the oppidum of Alesia, where the Roman army of Julius Caesar defeated the Gauls led by Vercingetorix in 52 BC. A monumental statue of Vercingetorix, erected in 1865 under Napoleon III, recalls the first archaeological research carried out on the site.

The interpretation centre, a large circular building clad in wood and designed by architect Bernard Tschumi, opened to the public in March 2012. The Côte-d’Or department owns it, and its management has been entrusted to a local public company. The permanent display was completely renewed in 2021.

The museum presents more than 600 objects, from prehistory to the present day, in an interactive exhibition devoted to the conquest of Gaul, the siege of Alesia and the memory of this event. A few kilometres away, the remains of the Gallo-Roman town that grew up after the Gallic defeat can be visited with the same ticket; augmented reality brings the fortifications on the Roman side back to life there.
