Over het museum
According to the museum's website, the main building “A Schiewesch” was built in 1600 as a sheepfold; a residential house was added in 1725, and from 1950 part of it served as a cowshed. In 1983 the association Syndicat d’intérêts Binsfeld-Holler-Breidfeld bought the building, had it restored and opened the museum there in 1988. It grew out of the old objects the association had gathered during the restoration of farmhouses in the early 1980s.
In 1990 the association acquired the former farm building opposite, the “Glesener” house; the enlarged museum was inaugurated on May 26, 1996. It was completely renovated in 2015, when the entrance area, the “Strooss vun der Regioun”, took on its present appearance.
The exhibition covers more than 50 themes of life in the village and the region across some 20 rooms. Since 2023 there has also been a separate exhibition, “Klompen in de koestal”, about Dutch farmers who immigrated to Luxembourg in the 1950s. The wood-fired oven is regularly fired up to bake bread the traditional way.
