Over het museum
The Fundación CIEC, Centro Internacional de la Estampa Contemporánea, is a private foundation created on 7 April 1997 on the initiative of the artist Jesús Núñez, with the aim of promoting and disseminating the visual arts and, in particular, graphic art. Núñez, born in Betanzos in 1927, founded it in his birthplace, contributing equipment, part of his personal collection and a significant number of prints by his own hand. He himself describes it as a living museum-centre, where the birth and development of graphic art is shown in a didactic, theoretical, visual and practical way.
The foundation combines training and exhibition activities. It organises courses and workshops throughout the year and, since 2003, a master's degree in printmaking, and shows the holdings of its collection alongside temporary exhibitions. It has 1,500 square metres of workshops with etching presses, printing presses and equipment for lithography, intaglio, woodcut and screen printing, in addition to its exhibition spaces. Since 2006 the Provincial Council of A Coruña has awarded the Jesús Núñez International Graphic Art Prize.
The collection brings together more than 3,000 works, from the most realistic idioms to abstraction, with names such as Picasso, Miró, Dalí, Tàpies, Saura and Maruja Mallo. Of particular importance are the rooms devoted to Jesús Núñez, with more than one hundred works, to Amadeo Gabino, with more than sixty pieces donated in 2002, and to Luís Seoane, with woodcuts and screen prints on permanent display.
