Over het museum
The Museo Liste was founded in 1999 by the Fundación Liste, which holds the ethnographic legacy of the master Olimpio Liste Regueiro and his wife, Josefina Fernández Mosquera, after decades of gathering objects from all over Galicia. It was installed in the Chalet Barreras on Rúa Pastora in Vigo, a mid-20th-century building owned by the City Council and assigned to the foundation, with almost 600 m² of usable space over four floors. It joined the Galician Council of Museums in 2001.
The collection offers an overview of Galician ethnographic heritage through nine permanent rooms: rye culture, the traditional wheel and cart, the symbolism of trades, enclosures and the work of blacksmiths, textiles, dug-out wood, light, the material side of faith, and the art of healing.
Alongside its permanent exhibition, the museum stages temporary exhibitions, mostly of private collections, and educational activities, and it has a library specialising in Galician anthropology.
