Over het museum
The Ca n'Oliver museum is a new building that opened on 1 October 2010, designed by the architecture team AV 62 Arquitectes. It was financed with the participation of the European Union, the Generalitat de Catalunya, AGBAR Aigües de Barcelona, Abertis and Cerdanyola City Council. It stands inside a former quarry, to the west of the hill, and is almost invisible so as not to detract from the more than 6,000 m² of archaeological remains recovered. It has 1,070 m² spread over two floors: below are the entrance, the storerooms, the library and work areas, and on the first floor are two exhibition rooms, the reception and the shop. The roof is a terrace that recovers the original profile of the hill.
The Iberian settlement of Ca n'Oliver was an aristocratic settlement inhabited between 525 and 50 BC, key to understanding the organisation of the Laietanian territory. It covers about two hectares and has been excavated almost continuously since 1986. After a long campaign and the restoration and musealisation of the remains, it was opened to the public in 1999 and incorporated into the Ruta dels Ibers, a cultural tourism project promoted by the Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya. Today more than 6,000 m² of the site can be visited, with remains from all phases of the settlement, stretches of wall, the urban layout and a large storage area, as well as three reconstructed Iberian buildings.
The permanent exhibition, “Cerdanyola, terra d'ibers”, occupies 290 m² and presents Iberian culture in seven areas, with backlit panels, audiovisuals, reconstructions, interactive elements and more than 500 objects from the Cerdanyola sites.
