Over het museum
Thermalia, Museu de Caldes de Montbui brings together several buildings and collections that sum up the history of the town: Roman baths, a Romanesque chapel, a Gothic civil building and an 18th-century manor house, spread across three sites.
The main site occupies the former Santa Susanna hospital, a Gothic building from the late 14th century that is integrated into the Romanesque chapel of the same name. The hospital took in poor people and had baths that operated alongside the public ones; it is documented as early as 1330 and was reformed several times. In the 1980s it was completely renovated, keeping the façade, the entrance arcades, three 18th-century bathtubs and the wooden roof structure of the upper floor.
The museum works as a thematic centre around the culture of thermal water, which rises at about 76 °C, and presents the heritage, personalities and traditions of the town. Its other focus is art: the upper floors show the Mas Manolo collection, the main public display of the sculptor and painter Manolo Hugué, who spent the last two decades of his life in Caldes. It is accompanied by ceramics, lithographs and drawings by his friend Pablo Picasso. The other two sites are the Romantic house-museum of Can Delger, handed over to the town council by the Delger family in 1959, and the Roman Baths, a property of national cultural interest.
