Over het museum
Verbum - Casa das Palabras opened in 2003 on the Avenida de Samil, next to the beach of the same name, as an interactive museum devoted to human communication. The building is the work of the architect César Portela: it has four levels, more than 5,000 m² of built floor space on a plot of more than 13,000 m², and a central light well that connects the floors.
The permanent exhibition used interactive wooden cubes, one for each letter of the alphabet, covering language and communication, literature, science and technology.
Vigo City Council has announced a new use for the building: a museum on the history of the city, with the history of Vigo on the first floor and archaeological pieces on the ground floor. Meanwhile, the municipal website reports that the first-floor exhibition has been closed for the renewal of the exhibition programme.
