Over het museum
The Galerie Cesty ke světlu (Paths to Light Gallery) was founded by the painter, graphic artist and psychologist Zdeněk Hajný. Its creation was preceded by the multimedia synthesis project Via ad lucem from 1991, which envisaged an exhibition of fine art combined with music, lighting and scents; originally a location in the premises of the Strahov Monastery was considered. The gallery was solemnly opened on 26 May 1994 in Chodov, Prague.
According to its creators, it is not meant to be a classic exhibition hall but a quiet place for pausing, concentration and mental and spiritual renewal, with a basic Christian orientation. It was gradually extended with spaces made of stained-glass objects and star symbols made of semi-precious stones, in which the appearance of the space changes with the alternation of natural and artificial light. The copper roof of the building was completed in 2011.
Apart from the paintings of Zdeněk Hajný, the gallery hosts exhibitions by other artists in the Křišťálová pyramida (Crystal Pyramid), afternoon multimedia programmes Vesmírná píseň (Cosmic Song) and Putování vesmírem (Journey Through Space), evening lectures and concerts. The gallery also runs educational projects for schools on a long-term basis.
