Over het museum

The Mining Museum in Zbůch was opened to the public on 28 September 2019, during the celebrations of Miners' Day. It arose from the initiative of members of the Mining-Historical Association of the Western Bohemian Coal Mines (HHS ZUD), which was founded in 2015 and whose statutes provide for a mining exhibition. The museum is housed in the former control building at the entrance to the premises of the company ZUD, which the association rents.

The basis of the exhibition is a chronological overview of mining work in the Plzeň coal basin, which for decades was managed by the Western Bohemian Coal Mines, founded in 1946. Visitors see an overview of the mines in the basin, period tools and instruments (jackhammers, undercutters, drill bits, saws), equipment used by shot-firers, mine surveyors and rescue workers, helmets, breathing apparatus, miners' lamps and old documents, including a manuscript of the Mining Act. Documentary films and objects made from švartna are also included.

Since 2021 the museum has been supplemented by an outdoor exhibition with a faithful copy of a coal gallery and a model of a winding tower. A monument to the victims of mining in the Plzeň and Radnice regions stands by the former main shaft entrance. The museum is part of the industrial heritage sites of the Plzeň Region.
