Over het museum

The MJ-S 4 “Zatáčka” bunker lies west of the village of Chvalovice in the Znojmo region and belongs to the Czechoslovak fortifications of the second half of the 1930s. It is a two-sided, two-wing bunker with two armored bells, one above-ground and one underground floor, and walls up to 225 cm thick, which withstood artillery shells up to 24 cm caliber. The structure was designed according to the N-S 63 type. Concreting took place in September 1938, just a week before general mobilization, so the bunker was not completed or armed before the war.

The army finished it only in 1948; a year later it received armored bells, and in 1960 it was re-armed with 85 mm cannons. The army used it for training and left it at the end of 1999.

Since 2009 the bunker has been managed and restored by the Klub vojenské historie “ROTO Chvalovice” (Military History Club ROTO Chvalovice), which is returning it to its appearance in the 1960s. Visitors can see post-war armament, including anti-tank guns model 44/59, heavy machine guns model 37 and light machine guns model 26, as well as the filter room and other furnished rooms. The club also holds themed events at the bunker, such as the Den pevnostních muzeí (Fortress Museums Day) in June and Světla nad bunkry (Lights over the Bunkers) in September.
