Over het museum
The idea of establishing a museum in Bílá Voda arose in 2002, after the last religious sisters had left. The municipality wanted to record its rich and turbulent past, but for several years there was no money for it. The project took concrete shape only thanks to the cooperation of several local residents and experts; a historian from the Jeseník museum also joined the team.
In 2011 the municipal council approved an application for a grant from the Rural Development Programme, and the realisation could begin. The museum opened on 7 September 2012, the birthday of Antonín Jan Nepomuk Brosmann, the first rector of the local Piarist grammar school. It was preceded by about a year of archival work, collecting the memories of contemporary witnesses and gathering objects from local families.
The exhibition is divided into two halls. The first traces the history of the village, whose fate was closely linked to the Catholic Church. The second hall is devoted to the internment of religious sisters by the communist regime from 1950 to 1989 and is meant to remind visitors what fear of other opinions and values can lead to. The sisters were brought to Bílá Voda as part of the so-called Operation R, in which women’s religious orders were cleared.
