Over het museum
The bicycle museum is housed in a former water fortress in Boskovštejn in the Znojmo region. The fortress was built in the early 16th century; around 1600 it was converted into a small chateau, and today it serves as a museum of bicycles. The museum opened to the public in summer 2015.
The collection was largely formed from bicycles that an enthusiast had gathered over many years; after his company went under, the company Velo MTB took it over and rented the chateau from its owners. The exhibition comprises several hundred items spread over two floors: on the first floor are older pieces from the 19th century, on the second modern cycling, including the first mountain bikes.
On display are large-wheeled bicycles with wooden frames, tricycles from 1884–1910, high-wheelers, safety bicycles, machines by the makers Terrot and Quadrant, racing bicycles and mountain bikes from 1984. A separate collection consists of cycling lithographic posters from 1888–1910. Information on the current operation could not be verified.
