Over het museum
The technical and documentation museum of Prague's energy industry was opened by Pražská energetika in 1997. For its first eleven years it was located in Novovysočanská Street, and in that time several thousand visitors saw the exhibition. During the reorganisation of the PRE group in 2008 it moved to the grounds of the 110 kV substation in Holešovice, and in its new premises it opened to the public at the turn of 2008 and 2009.
The collection numbers over seven hundred exhibits and is still growing. They include the founding charter of the Electric Enterprises of the Capital City of Prague from 1897, a letter from Thomas A. Edison from 1929, a handwritten physics textbook from 1900, a coin-operated electricity meter from 1938, and a marble control panel from the Jih substation from 1929. Also of interest is a suitcase with the medical device Ozonit, which appeared in the film Postřižiny.
In 2012 a new exhibition was set up in part of the former extra-high-voltage switchgear room. Beside a modern switchgear stands a glass window onto one bay of the original 110 kV switchgear, with sections through its components. At the turn of 2019 and 2020 the museum underwent a major reconstruction: it received air conditioning, new LED lighting, shelving for historical electrical appliances, and a projection room for 40 people. The exhibition, covering almost 800 m², documents the electrification of Prague from the beginning of the 20th century to the present.
