Over het museum

The Museum of Industrial Railways was founded in 1991 as a collection of narrow-gauge vehicles. Already at the end of the 1980s its founders were documenting the operation of narrow-gauge lines, for example the forest railways in Slovakia. From 1991 to 1994 they built a first short demonstration track, about 200 metres long, in a garden in Brno-Černovice, and between 1995 and 2005 they operated on the Mladějov narrow-gauge line.

In 2005 work began on the line between Zbýšov and Zastávka u Brna, where an old industrial siding was being converted to narrow gauge. Regular steam train rides for the public began in 2007. After the conversion was completed in 2017, trains ran from Zbýšov to a temporary station at Zastávka. Since 2025 the platforms have been directly at Zastávka u Brna railway station, and the line measures 3.2 kilometres.

At Zbýšov-Důl Jindřich station there is the museum of historical narrow-gauge steam, diesel and electric locomotives and carriages, a permanent exhibition on the history of the Zbýšov railway, model railway exhibitions, refreshments and facilities for children. The collection includes a working Siemens electric locomotive from 1908. Admission to the museum is included in the train ticket.

The ticket is valid for one journey there and back and also serves as admission to the museum. It is non-transferable and valid only on the day and at the time stated on it. Bicycles, luggage and dogs are carried free of charge; bicycles and larger luggage must be announced in advance. There is no charge for photography. Tickets are sold at the ticket office in Zbýšov or at the regional information centre in Zastávka. Opening the museum outside operating hours is possible from 15 adult tickets (CZK 3,000).

The exhibition and the main departure station are in Zbýšov (the Sička district). The second station is at Zastávka u Brna railway station (GPS 49.1873, 16.3582), where tickets are available at the regional information centre.

The museum offers special runs with a diesel or steam train for groups (from 30 or 60 adult tickets respectively) and rental of the site outside opening hours (CZK 4,000 for the first hour).
