Over het museum

The Řeznické muzeum (Butchery Museum) arose from the wish of the Pavlíček family to honour the memory of the butcher Jan Pavlíček. In 1995 he completed in Náměšť nad Oslavou a production facility with a shop on the square, and throughout his life he dreamed of a museum that would recall the history of butchery. After his death in 2011, his son Jan Pavlíček junior decided to fulfil the dream and set aside space for the exhibits in the new building of the meat production facility.

The exhibition was solemnly opened on 21 January 2012. The collection has grown rapidly since then, by an average of one exhibit a week, and the family therefore sought to build separate premises. In 2014, in cooperation with the town of Třebíč, an exhibition of a Jewish butcher's workshop was also created in the house of Seligmann Bauer in the Jewish Quarter.

The museum is located in the production premises of the butcher's and sausage-maker's shop, so visitors are always accompanied by an experienced guide from the trade. On display are everything from small tools to large cast-iron machines driven by belt transmission, which document the processing of meat since 1850.
