Over het museum

The Museum of Ghosts was founded in 2002 and is housed in the medieval cellar of the burgrave’s house no. 17 on Masarykovo náměstí in Pelhřimov. The town of Pelhřimov runs it through its municipal cultural institution, Kulturní zařízení města Pelhřimova. The exhibition is devoted to supernatural beings from legends and stories from Pelhřimov and the surrounding Vysočina region, which are documented even in local history compilations.

The figures on display are mostly made of wax and are life-size. Each one has a description of its character and behaviour, so visitors learn whom they need not fear and whom they should be wary of. Beneath the stone vaults, the tour is accompanied by sound and light effects and fog. You will meet, for example, the Bludný kořen (Wandering Root), a witch, bludičky (will-o’-the-wisps), the Hejkal and the Meluzína (Melusine).
