Over het museum
The Visitor Centre of the Czech National Bank is located in the headquarters building on Na Příkopě. It consists of two permanent exhibitions that explain money, central banking and the financial market. They are aimed mainly at pupils of the second level of basic schools and at students, but also welcome families, adults and seniors.
The exhibition Lidé a peníze (People and Money) is housed in the original vault of the Živnostenská banka, today the Czech National Bank. It tells the story of Czech and Czechoslovak monetary history and of central banking in an international context. The best-known exhibit is a gold coin with a face value of CZK 100,000,000, which the CNB issued in 2019 for the 100th anniversary of the Czechoslovak currency; it is the largest gold coin in Europe and the second largest in the world. The exhibition also includes the supplementary Pracovna Aloise Rašína (Alois Rašín’s Study), with an immersive projection about the first finance minister.
The exhibition Za měnou (Behind the Currency) is interactive and playful. It shows what the CNB does for price and financial stability, who decides on monetary policy and on supervision of the financial market, and how the bank operates at home and abroad. It includes a haptic section. Admission to both exhibitions is free.
