Over het museum

The museum was founded in 1958 in the former parsonage as a literary memorial to Věnceslav Metelka, a folk poet and violinist, who was the model for a character in Karel Václav Rais's novel Zapadlí vlastenci (The Forgotten Patriots). In 1975 a new exhibition on the cultural history of the village was added, and in 1979 an exhibition on violin making, because Paseky is the cradle of Krkonoše violin making.

The local history exhibition was reworked in 2005 and presents the history of the village from the 19th to the mid-20th century, including associational life, crafts and industry. On display are, for example, two hand weaving looms, a turning workshop with tools from the end of the 19th century and the moving nativity scene of the Škrabálek brothers. The violin-making exhibition, called Krkonošská houslařská škola (Krkonoše School of Violin Making), presents the instruments of the Paseky violin makers, especially from the Pilař and Špidlen families.

In 2017–2018 the building underwent extensive reconstruction, and the exhibitions were modernized with support from the Integrated Regional Operational Programme. In 2018 the museum won third place in the Gloria musealis competition in the category Muzejní počin roku (Museum Achievement of the Year). The museum is managed by the Krkonoše National Park Administration, and its partner is the municipality of Paseky nad Jizerou. Next to it stands the church of St Václav from the end of the 18th century.
