Over het museum

The house dates from the second half of the 15th century and was then called Špulířovský. In the 16th century it was bought by Petr Vok of Rožmberk, who added two neighbouring houses and joined them into one complex, creating a comfortable palace for his frequent stays in Soběslav. Shortly before his death he bequeathed the house to Zuzana Vojířová, a former servant and companion of his late wife.

In 1904 the town bought the house for a museum that the Musejní spolek (Museum Society) had founded in Soběslav as early as 1897, and since then the building has served museum purposes. Today it is the main seat of the Blatské muzeum. Since 1985 the permanent exhibition Příroda Táborska has been on display here, filling six halls on the first floor; it is one of the largest of its kind in South Bohemia. In 2014 it was joined by the art-historical exhibition Soběslav – město pětilisté růže, which presents the town’s Rožmberk history, centred on the Gothic town treasury and a model of Soběslav from the 16th century.

The house also has an exhibition and lecture hall, a library and the museum’s natural science workplace. After partial reconstruction, the Rožmberský dům reopened on 21 June 2025. It is step-free, has a lift and a wheelchair-accessible toilet.
