Svatojánské muzeum

Over het museum

The Svatojánské muzeum was founded by a decision of the municipal council in 2012. It is housed in the historic building of a former village school from 1822, in which the municipal office had been located since 1998. Credit for founding the museum goes mainly to the then mayor Jiří Ševčík, and it is still run under the patronage of the Svatojánská společnost.

The aim is to collect historical and artistic objects, most of which relate to the history of the village. Over the years, exhibits were acquired from friends of the place and from local residents. When the museum was set up, the Muzeum Českého krasu in Beroun helped with support and by lending essential equipment. Every year at Christmas a themed exhibition, Vánoce v muzeu (Christmas in the Museum), takes place.

• Stálá expozice z historie obce – Old paintings, photographs and objects from the history of Svatý Jan pod Skalou are complemented by a collection of craftsmen's tools, everyday objects of village people and a collection of 19th-century embroidery by the Berger family.
