Over het museum

Dewsbury Bus Museum is run by the West Riding Omnibus Museum Trust, a registered charity staffed by volunteers. The story began in November 1971, when a group of enthusiasts, mostly employees of the West Riding bus company, met in Wakefield to save two surviving Guy Wulfrunian buses. A Leyland Tiger and a Guy Wulfrunian were acquired in 1972, and over the years the group built up a wider collection of former West Riding vehicles.

As the collection grew, storing it in the company's working garages became difficult. West Riding offered the group the run-down former Bragg Depot at Ravensthorpe near Dewsbury, and the Trust was formed to take over the site. The old building was later demolished and replaced by a new steel-framed one, which was formally opened under the name Dewsbury Bus Museum on 24 September 1989. After a quiet period around the turn of the millennium, new members arrived from 2007 and events and open days began again.

Today the Trust aims to preserve the transport heritage of the West Riding of Yorkshire and the surrounding area. Its vehicles come from West Riding, Huddersfield, Yorkshire Rider, County Motors and other operators, and the two surviving Guy Wulfrunians are a particular focus. Some vehicles belong to the Trust, others to groups or individual members, and part of the collection is stored at other sites because the building has been outgrown.
