Over het museum
Dundee Museum of Transport is an independent charity museum that preserves the transport heritage of Dundee and the surrounding area. It shows classic vehicles and interactive displays, and it looks ahead to a sustainable, net-zero transport future. It is run by trustees and a small staff team and relies heavily on volunteers.
The museum has been based in temporary premises at Market Mews on Market Street for about twelve years. It has announced that it will close to visitors at this site on 31 October 2026 so that its collection can be moved to its planned permanent home, the Maryfield Tram Depot.
The depot in the Stobswell area was built in 1901, extended in 1913 and 1920 to a length of 120 metres and could hold up to 70 trams. It later served as a bus depot, was damaged by a fire in 2002 and is a Grade B listed building. The museum bought it in 2015 with help from Dundee City Council and is raising funds to restore it as a new museum.
