Over het museum

Glynde Place is an Elizabethan manor house in the village of Glynde in East Sussex, on the edge of the South Downs. William and Anne Morley built it in 1569 from local flint, chalk and Caen stone. The estate later passed by inheritance through several families, among them the Morleys, the Trevors and the Brands, and it remains the home of the Viscounts Hampden.

The house has been Grade I listed since 1952, and its gardens are Grade II* listed. Between 2008 and 2013 it underwent a major renovation, which was paid for by selling one of the estate's paintings.

The family lives in the house and opens it to visitors on a limited number of days each year, always as a guided tour. Most of the tour takes place on the first floor. The grounds are also the setting for annual events, including the Potfest ceramics festival, the Love Supreme Jazz Festival and a beer festival.
