Over het museum
Hogarth's House in Chiswick was built between 1713 and 1717. From 1749 until his death in 1764 it was the country home of the painter, engraver and satirist William Hogarth, who used it as a retreat from his London studio.
The house has been open to the public since 1904 and for most of that time has displayed a collection of Hogarth's prints. It survived several difficulties during the twentieth century, including bomb damage in the Second World War. A refurbishment funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2011 greatly improved the interpretation of the rooms.
A second National Lottery Heritage Fund project, the Mulberry Garden project completed around 2020, repaired the historic garden wall, created an exhibition garden that shows historic planting and themes, and added the Weston Studio, a new space for learning, events and hire. The house and garden are managed by the London Borough of Hounslow.
