Over het museum
The Isle of Man Motor Museum was founded by the father and son Denis and Darren Cunningham, who funded it privately, and opened in May 2015. It was designed for the purpose on the site of the former RAF Jurby in the north of the island.
The core of the display is the Cunningham Collection, which includes historically significant vehicles and cars with family stories, and more than 250 further vehicles are on loan from other enthusiasts and collectors. In total the museum shows over 500 vehicles, many of them kept in running order. The collection also tells the story of the island's motoring heritage, which began with the Gordon Bennett Trials of 1904.
The cars range from a 1902 Columbia Electric to modern prototypes and include the Humber Super Snipe used on the 1953 Commonwealth tour of Queen Elizabeth II, a presidential Lincoln Continental limousine and a right-hand-drive DeLorean. Over 300 motorcycles, among them TT winning machines, are shown on two accessible mezzanine levels, and the museum also holds steam vehicles and larger exhibits such as fire engines, buses and a hovercraft.
