Over het museum
Jupiter Artland was founded in 2009 by the art collectors Robert and Nicky Wilson at Bonnington House near Wilkieston, west of Edinburgh. It is run by a charity, the Jupiter Artland Foundation, and was nominated for the Art Fund Museum of the Year award in 2016.
The site covers about 120 acres of meadow and woodland. It holds more than 30 permanent sculptures and landscape works made for their places, by artists including Phyllida Barlow, Christian Boltanski, Charles Jencks, Anish Kapoor, Antony Gormley, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Tracey Emin and Marc Quinn. Galleries in the converted farm buildings, called the Steadings, and in the Ballroom host a changing programme of exhibitions by emerging and established artists. A swimming pool designed by Joana Vasconcelos is also part of the site.
Education is central to the project. The foundation offers free school visits and aims to reach every child in Scotland, and visitors can make their own work in the MAKE studio. The foundation says that all admission income goes to this learning programme.

The café and the Steadings galleries are reached by ramp, and the Ballroom Garden and Ballroom Gallery have step-free access. Paths lead around the whole 120-acre site and suit most outdoor wheelchair users, but they are not tarmac and can be hard going in bad weather, and some paths end at a viewpoint rather than reaching the sculpture. The path from the gates to the Steadings is cobbled with a gravel section and a paved ramp alongside. A dedicated disabled car park is about 100 metres from the Steadings. Disabled and unisex toilets are in the Steadings. Free touch tours for blind and partially sighted groups can be arranged through the learning team.
