Over het museum

Glasgow's transport collection was first shown in the Glasgow Museum of Transport, which opened on 14 April 1964 in a former tram depot at Coplawhill. In 1988 it moved to the Kelvin Hall, where it stayed until it closed in April 2010 to make way for a purpose-built home.

Riverside Museum opened on 21 June 2011 at Pointhouse Quay, where the River Kelvin meets the Clyde. It was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and was Glasgow Life's first purpose-built museum of the 21st century. In 2013 it won the European Museum of the Year Award.

More than 3,000 objects from the city's transport and technology collections are on display, reflecting Glasgow's history of shipbuilding, locomotive building and engineering. They include cars, motorcycles, bicycles, trams, buses and model ships, a South African steam locomotive built in Glasgow, and a recreated street from the 1890s to 1930s with shop interiors. The Govan–Partick Bridge, opened in 2024, links the museum to Govan on the south bank.
