Over het museum

The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre stands in Great Missenden, the Buckinghamshire village where the children's author lived for 36 years until his death in 1990. It was opened in June 2005 in a converted coaching inn and yard on the High Street, after a building project that cost about 4.5 million pounds and was funded by the Dahl family, his publishers, charitable foundations and donors.

The museum is run by an independent charity, the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre. It looks after Dahl's main papers, including manuscripts, business and personal letters and his Ideas Books, and uses them to explore how he created his stories. Visitors pass through three interactive galleries, Boy, Solo and the Story Centre, which cover his childhood, his adult life and writing, and the craft of storytelling.

The museum also shows the Writing Hut in which Dahl wrote many of his books, and runs workshops, storytelling and events, mostly in the school holidays. In 2008 it won the Enjoy England award for Best Small Visitor Attraction.
