Over het museum
The house at Weston-under-Lizard was built in 1671 for Lady Elizabeth Wilbraham and passed by inheritance to the Earls of Bradford. In the 18th century Sir Henry Bridgeman commissioned Capability Brown to landscape the park, and the architect James Paine altered the house and added the Roman Bridge and the Temple of Diana. The formal gardens date from the 1860s.
The house holds a large art collection, with portraits by Van Dyck and his workshop, John Michael Wright and George Stubbs, Gobelins tapestries, fine furniture and a Victorian library of over 3,000 books. In 1986 the 7th Earl of Bradford gave the house and parkland to the nation, and they are now cared for by the Weston Park Foundation, an independent charity.
Today visitors can walk in the parkland and gardens and visit the house on selected days. The estate also has a woodland adventure playground, a miniature railway, an art gallery with changing selling exhibitions, a restaurant and café, holiday cottages, and a venue for weddings and events.
