Om museet
The André Demedtshuis is a cultural and arts centre in the old Leie valley of Sint-Baafs-Vijve, a part of Wielsbeke. The house was founded in 1983 and completely renovated in 2011-2012. It is named after the Flemish writer-poet and cultural promoter André Demedts (1906-1992), who came from Sint-Baafs-Vijve. Demedts first spent seventeen years as a farmer, then taught Dutch and finally became director of Radio Kortrijk. He was among those who helped set up the Komitee voor Frans-Vlaanderen, Ons Erfdeel and the art magazine Kunsttijdschrift Vlaanderen, among others.
The permanent André Demedts Museum combines information panels about the author's life and work with a library with a reading table and an audiovisual, interactive projection screen with 70 image and 20 radio fragments of, with and about Demedts. Visitors choose for themselves which aspects they want to view or listen to. In addition, an art exhibition runs every month, and coffee concerts take place in the adjoining Sint-Bavokerk.
