Om museet
The surf museum is part of the Surf Palace, a venue in Biscarrosse-Plage 50 meters from the ocean, which also houses a bar-restaurant, a shop and apartments. It takes visitors through the history of surfing with panels in French and English, alongside numbered surfboards displayed throughout the venue.
The route begins in Hawaii about 2,000 years ago, when surfing was linked to social rank. It then follows the first surf clubs, Duke Kahanamoku, the hollow boards and the fin (dérive) invented by Tom Blake, the pioneers of big-wave surfing and the foam board of the 1950s. It covers the shortboard revolution, the innovations of the 1970s, professional surfing, the birth of surfwear, stand-up paddle, foiling, wave pools and the arrival of surfing at the Olympic Games.
