Om museet
Teigarhorn at Berufjörður is world-famous for its zeolites and is one of the most important zeolite localities in the world. Part of the land was protected as a nature monument in 1975 and declared a nature reserve in 2013. A ranger is on site all year round.
The stone collection, the Geislasteinasafnið (Zeolite Museum) at Teigarhorn, displays stones from East Iceland, particularly from Teigarhorn, and many types of zeolite, as well as some stones from other regions and countries. The museum is open by request in summer.
Weywadt House was built in 1880–1882 by Níels Weywadt, a shop manager in Djúpivogur. His daughter, Nicoline Weywadt (1848–1921), studied photography and mineralogy in Copenhagen, ran a photography studio in the house and managed the estate after her father’s death. The last residents moved away in 1988, and since 1992 the house has been looked after by the National Museum of Iceland. Weather observations have also been made at Teigarhorn since 1872.
