Om museet
The Geniemuseum tells the story of the Dutch Regiment Genietroepen, the engineers of the land forces. The foundation was laid in 1948 by a historical collection for the regiment's 200th anniversary. In 1959 the foundation De Historische Genieverzameling took over management of the collection.
In 1969 the collection moved into Building K of the Van Brederodekazerne in Vught, which had been built in 1943 as part of Camp Vught; a year later the first permanent exhibition opened there. From the late 1990s the museum developed into a professional museum for the public: in 2001 the NBC collection (nuclear, biological, chemical) was added, in 2004 it was entered in the Museum Register, and in 2007 the converted wing and the central hall were opened. Since 2007 the museum has also been the "Huis van het Regiment Genietroepen", that is, the place for the regiment's traditions and gatherings.
The museum comprises the museum building with the permanent exhibition, the Genietuin with a memorial field, vehicles, watercraft and engineering equipment, and the PMC-NBr building, a command bunker from the Cold War built in 1981 that has been part of it since 2021. The museum is located on the defence grounds of the Van Brederodekazerne.
