Om museet

The Vlaemsche Erfgoed is a local heritage museum that stretches along an entire street of the village of Groede in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. In former shops and workshops on the Slijkstraat, one of the oldest streets of the village, which arose in the 13th century, the life of an agricultural village in the first half of the 20th century is shown. In the 1930s, cafés, a bakery, a grocery, carpentry shops, bicycle workshops, a wagon builder and a painter's workshop, among others, stood side by side here. The name recalls the County of Flanders, to which the area belonged in the Middle Ages.

Visitors begin in the Erfgoedwinkel, the museum shop, which is also the entrance and ticket desk, and from there walk through the individual houses: grocery shop, barber shop, museum bakery, painter's workshop, shoemaker's, smithy, textile shop and carpentry. Short films accompany several of the collections. In addition, changing special collections are shown, such as a complete spectacle-maker's workshop, therapeutic dolls and a collection of drawing cloths.

The museum also includes the Lutheran Church of 1741, the only one in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. It was built by Lutherans who had fled the Archbishopric of Salzburg in 1733, was thoroughly restored in 1998 and has since served as an exhibition space; it can be visited only by appointment or on guided dates. The museum is run by the volunteer foundation Stichting Groede; it also provides space for crafts and living handicraft and sees itself as a social meeting place for people with disabilities.

Step-free entrance with threshold ramps; volunteers help if needed. Some workshops have passages only about 60 cm wide; the collection there can partly be seen from outside. Seating in the museum shop. Assistance dogs and pet dogs are allowed. Please request personal assistance, an audio tour or a guided tour in advance.
