Om museet

The Lalique Museum in Doesburg is dedicated to the French jeweller and glass artist René Lalique (1860–1945). Worldwide there are only three museums devoted specifically to his work: in Hakone (Japan), in Wingen-sur-Moder (France) and here in the Hanseatic city on the IJssel. The museum was founded in 2011 and is run by the foundation Société Musée Lalique Pays Bas, which receives no operating subsidy and therefore also depends on income from the café, shop and donations.

On display are jewels and jewellery, perfume bottles, vases, bowls, car mascots, sculptures and glassware. The collection grew out of several private collections that were donated or lent to the foundation; there is a cooperation with the Lalique Gallery through which objects come to the museum as long-term loans. In addition, the museum shows temporary exhibitions with works by contemporaries from roughly 1850 to 1950.

After years of restoration and conversion, the Commanderij has been part of the museum since 2026, a knights' building of the Teutonic Order dating from 1286, which is connected to a new entrance building, auditorium, café and garden. The ground floor of the Commanderij had already been in use since July 2023; the official opening of the renewed museum took place on 4 July 2026, and it opened to the public on 5 July.
