Om museet

The museum shows rural life in the northeastern Veluwe. Its centerpiece is a thatched Saxon hall house dating from 1715, which has been a listed monument since 1968. It stands in the hamlet of Zuuk between pastures and woodland and is furnished as it would have been in earlier times; around it are historic outbuildings full of everyday objects.

In the 1960s the site came into the hands of a foundation that looks after museums and collections in the municipality of Epe, with public support. Today the grounds comprise the farmhouse with outbuildings, a modern kapschuur (barn-style building) with exhibition rooms, a vegetable garden, an orchard, a teaching apiary, a museum shop and a terrace. The collection includes Veluwe traditional costumes and depictions of rural life around 1900.

Operations rely on around 75 volunteers, who carry out guided tours, events, educational programs and grounds maintenance. The museum sees itself as a meeting place for visitors, volunteers and the village community, and conveys the nature, culture and history of the Veluwe in an interactive way.
