Om museet
The Aignerhaus on Agergasse is one of the last originally preserved Mittertennhäuser (central-threshing-floor farmhouses) of the Attergau. When demolition threatened in 1988, the naturalist Erich Wilhelm Ricek applied for monument protection; in 1990 the Federal Monuments Office placed the building under protection, so the planned demolition was dropped. Hedwig Huber subsequently campaigned for its preservation, and in 1991 the Kulturkreis Attergau rented the house from the owner family for 99 years.
In 1994 the Heimatverein Attergau was founded and took over the lease. In the following years the roof, carpentry and stoves were renovated, and in 1996 the house received a new roof of laid shingles. The collection items from the former Häupl-Haus were moved here in 1999, and the museum opened on 20 June 1999.
A small open-air museum gradually developed on the grounds: a barn, a Troadkasten (granary) and a beehouse from the surrounding area were dismantled and rebuilt here, and a farmhouse garden was added. In the living quarters, farm life is recreated with an open hearth, loom and equipment for wash day; in the former stable and storage section and in the barn, tools, vehicles and workshops of old craft trades can be seen. In addition there are collections on the development of skis, ice skates and mountain equipment. The operator is the Heimatverein Attergau.
