Om museet
The learning and memorial site goes back to an initiative of the ARGE Lern- und Gedenkort. Its content is based on the study by Gottfried Gansinger on resistance and persecution in the Ried district between 1938 and 1945, which members of the working group expanded through their own research. The building on Roßmarkt was named Charlotte-Taitl-Haus in 2015, and the exhibition opened in May 2017.
The namesake is Charlotte Taitl, born in 1896 in Thomasroith near Ottnang and murdered in Auschwitz in 1944. She stands for the 196 people from the district known so far who fell victim to the Nazi regime and fascism. The aim of the exhibition is to give these people back their names and life stories.
The space is regarded as an extension of the museum's city history exhibition at the Museum Innviertler Volkskundehaus and is located directly next to the city library. Stelae tell the biographies of 26 victims, and an information wall places the Nazi era in the district in context, including what came before and after. A touchscreen, oral history interviews, historical audio documents, videos in sign language and texts in easy-to-read language accessible via QR code make the content accessible to as many visitors as possible; a research station with internet access completes the offering.
