QuadrART Dornbirn

Om museet

Since June 2009, the collector Erhard Witzel and the artist Uta Belina Waeger have run QuadrART in Dornbirn as a space for contemporary art. It sees itself as a forum for exhibitions, projects, lectures and discussions, and deliberately not as a classical museum: the presentations are meant to change regularly and to stimulate exchange about art.

Until 2019, the private art collection of Erhard Witzel formed the basis of the shows. In the format “Ansichten” (Views), changing curators invited visitors to confront one aspect of the collection with contemporary art; a catalog was published for each edition. From 2016 to 2018 the house also worked as a cooperation partner of the vorarlberg museum in Bregenz and, in the series “Dialog”, set selected works from that museum's contemporary art collection against works from the Witzel collection.

Since autumn 2020, the format “Auf Einladung” (By Invitation) has been running: three times a year, an invited Vorarlberg artist curates an exhibition and invites three to six colleagues to a dialogue. This places the Vorarlberg art scene at the center. A fourth exhibition each year is a special show of the Witzel collection. Catalogs and editions published for the projects can be obtained through the house's shop.

Transport & parkering

By car: take the Dornbirn Süd motorway exit, go through the roundabout toward the center and continue straight for about 2.5 km; at the Hotel Krone turn left, cross the Dornbirner Ache, and at the second traffic light turn right toward the Bödele. After about 500 m, QuadrART is on the left-hand side.
