Om museet
From 1913 the house in Biolda near Tesserete was the permanent home and workplace of the painter Luigi Rossi (1853–1923). Born in Cassarate near Lugano, he came to the Capriasca via Milan, where he first spent the summers in Sarone and Roveredo. During the last twenty or so years of his life he created landscapes, scenes of rural life and portraits of his own family here, taking the area around Biolda as his pictorial subject.
The Casa Museo first opened to the public in 2023, the year of the hundredth anniversary of the artist's death. Behind the project is the art historian Matteo Bianchi, a great-grandnephew of the painter; the operator is Pagine d’arte Sagl. The house is only accessible on fixed dates and sees itself as a complement to the major retrospective then shown at the Pinacoteca cantonale Giovanni Züst in Rancate.
On display is a selection of paintings created in the Capriasca, including “La pianura” and “La valle dei campanili”, small oil studies, religious motifs and family figures in the garden. In addition there are illustrations Rossi made for books by Alphonse Daudet and Pierre Loti, as well as landscapes of the region. Rossi's work leads from realism to symbolism and stands between the Lombard and Central European traditions.
