Om museet
Since 1965, the Seon Village Museum has been housed in the so-called Walti House, a stately late neoclassical town house in the middle of the village centre near Sternenplatz. The innkeeper Rudolf Gruner had it built in 1847; it owes its name to a later owner, the teacher Rudolf Walti. The property includes a barn from 1873, which has served since 1991 as an additional exhibition space for agricultural equipment. The house was renovated in 1978; an interior renovation and the refurbishment of the roof followed in the 1990s.
The museum is run by a volunteer museum committee. The house displays finds from excavations around Seon: grave goods from the Hallstatt burial mounds in Fornholz and Niederholz, objects from the Alemannic cemetery at Weinhalde and Roman finds from the country villa near Seon-Biswind. There are also testimonies from more recent village history, for example on the Seetal railway, as well as a farmer's parlour, a weapons collection and a small display of film cameras and photographic equipment.
Besides the exhibition, the team maintains village archives such as photos, films, old postcards and a village chronicle. For children and families there are playful activities, including a search for the museum figure Walter, a dedicated quartet card game and geocaches. The museum cellar can be rented for events.
