Om museet
The Kunsthaus Interlaken opened in 2009 and grew out of the Kunstgesellschaft Interlaken's wish for its own exhibition space. It is run by a foundation board; the association of Friends of the Kunsthaus supports it, and many tasks, such as supervision in the exhibitions, are carried out by volunteers.
Since its opening, painting has been at the centre of the programme. Each year there are several temporary exhibitions with artists from Switzerland, as well as concerts and theatre performances in the house. Besides its own collection, the Kunsthaus also looks after the holdings of the Kunstgesellschaft Interlaken.
The collection is being built up, made possible by a large donation. It collects high-quality works from all periods that relate to the Bernese Oberland or come from artists connected to the region, so that over time a representative regional collection emerges. In addition there is the Dr. Rieder China Collection with several hundred objects from all periods, which is stored in the Kunsthaus and was shown in the old Amtshaus in 2005.
