Om museet
Arctic Corsair was built in 1960 by Cook, Welton and Gemmell in Beverley as a diesel side trawler for the Hull company Boyd Line. She fished the distant waters of the Arctic and the White Sea, and in 1973 she set a record for the weight of cod and haddock landed from the White Sea. During the Cod Wars in 1976 she rammed the Icelandic coastguard vessel Odinn, and in 2017 the two ships exchanged bells as a sign of reconciliation.
After her fishing career ended, Hull City Council bought the ship and she opened to visitors in 1999 as a floating museum on the River Hull next to the Streetlife Museum, run with the help of volunteers. She is Hull's last surviving sidewinder trawler and is described as the only distant-water sidewinder trawler regularly open to the public in the UK.
In 2019 she moved to Albert Dock to make way for flood defence works and later went to Dunston Ship Repairs for a major restoration as part of the Hull Maritime project. In August 2026 she was towed to a new dry berth at North End Shipyard. Walkways and a new visitor centre are being completed, and the attraction is expected to open in spring 2027.
