Om museet
The museum is housed in the former burgher shooting range, which stands on the site of the original wooden building of the Litovel shooting brotherhood. The present brick building opened in 1824 and became the centre of the town’s social life: balls, carnivals and the first amateur theatre were held there. From the 19th century the town took over the building, and in 1920 a municipal museum was ceremonially opened on its first floor.
The building underwent several repairs, most recently at the turn of the millennium, and on 11 September 2004 it was handed over to the public as part of the European Heritage Days. The exhibition spaces are on the first and second floors. The first exhibition of today’s museum, devoted to Litovel crafts, opened in 2005.
The museum currently offers three permanent exhibitions: stylised craft workshops, an exhibition on the wrestler Gustav Frištenský, and an exhibition on musical boxes and the production of gramophones in Litovel. The museum also holds short-term exhibitions, themed programmes and an annual fair.
