The museum is housed on the ground floor of the Old Town Hall, an architecturally interesting building from 1609 that divides the two squares of Chabařovice. Over its existence the building has changed its purpose many times: around 1900 it served as a hotel, and later it housed the town lock-up. In the mid-1990s it was restored, including the original tower clock with its hand-wound mechanism.

Today the town hall serves associations, council meetings and cultural and social events, but it cannot be rented for private or long-term purposes. The town library is located in the rear wing of the building.

The museum on the ground floor presents the life story of the town, which is linked to coal mining and the end of mining activity. The exhibition includes photographic documentation of the town and of the surrounding villages that no longer exist. Visits must be arranged in advance with the building's caretaker.
