Om museet

The Bayreuth Fire Brigade Museum was established in 1991, when the Bayreuth Volunteer Fire Brigade celebrated its 130th anniversary. The exhibition is housed in the city's main fire station and, on around 50 square metres on the upper floor, mainly shows the history of the Bayreuth brigade, with changing areas of focus.

Since 2002, the association Bayreuther FeuerwehrMuseum e. V., founded at that time with 53 members, has run the collection. It preserves, restores and presents decommissioned vehicles and firefighting equipment. As the holdings have grown steadily, the association has been looking for a larger location for some time.

The collection includes several large Magirus-Deutz vehicles, among them a tank fire engine from 1960, turntable ladders from 1963 and 1971, and the LF 16-TS fire-fighting group vehicle from 1964, which was nicknamed "Alte Berta" in the brigade and is still roadworthy today. There are also VW vans from civil protection, such as an orange command vehicle from 1979. Among the oldest pieces are a portable hand-pressure pump from the 18th century and a hand-drawn cart pump from 1868. Smaller exhibits such as helmets, uniforms and badges from Germany and abroad complement the exhibition; the vehicles can also be seen regularly at vintage vehicle meetings in the region.
