Om museet

The Dorfmuseum Ostheim traces back to the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein (local heritage and history society), founded in 1987, which set up its collection from the start in the stables of the former Weiderhof farm at Limesstraße 12. The farmhouse was built in 1860 as a half-timbered wooden structure and farmed until 1987; afterwards a painting business was based there until 2009. In 2009 the town of Nidderau bought the farm estate, and in 2013 a newly founded sponsoring association took it over.

The “Bürgerhof Ostheim” has been an intergenerational meeting place since 2014, run by several Ostheim clubs and largely expanded by volunteers. The museum occupies the former stable buildings and a grain loft and shows many hundreds of exhibits from farming and crafts, including horse and cattle harnesses and wooden wheelbarrows.

On the upper floor, complete workshops have been set up: a diamond-cutting workshop, which was once widespread in Ostheim, a shoemaker's workshop, a wheelwright's and a cooper's workshop. In the former half-timbered residential house opposite, historically furnished rooms and an original Ostheim bakery shop convey the life of earlier times; the museum also has a wedding room.
