Om museet
The Landwirtschafts- und Heimatmuseum of the town of Karben is located in the district of Groß-Karben, in the former Degenfeld Castle, which was built in the first half of the 18th century and enlarged around 1800. Since October 2010, the museum service of the Karben local history association, which works on a volunteer basis, has been ensuring that the open days take place; lectures are often held on these days.
The local history section shows pre- and early historic finds from the districts of Petterweil and Okarben, historic boundary stones, stamps, seals, as well as municipal signs and coats of arms. A staged well chamber recalls the four former Karben mineral springs with clay jugs, bottles and posters. Further areas cover life in rural society with old toys, primers and schoolbooks, the work of the farm wife around dairy, washing and ironing, and rural crafts, forestry and beekeeping. Two display rooms show a schoolroom from the first half of the 19th century and a general store (Kaufmannsladen) from Groß-Karben.
An exhibition hall in the back courtyard holds agricultural tools and machines, arranged according to work processes. They document the development of agricultural technology over roughly the last 150 years, including tractors and harvesting equipment.
