Om museet
The printing museum belongs to the local newspaper Traunsteiner Tagblatt, which has been published since 1855, and is located at the publishing house on Anton-Miller-Platz. It brings the history of printing from Gutenberg to the present day and shows the technology from hand typesetting to computers, and from lithography to rotary printing.
The showpiece of the permanent exhibition is the Senefelder-Stangenpresse (Senefelder bar press), an original machine from 1851, which is also called the Galgenpresse ("gallows press") because of its shape; lithographic printing was done on it from stone. The newspaper's publisher runs the house as a private museum.
